Tom’s introduction and venture into working with developing safety cultures in organizations was by accident. After concluding his signature leadership program, Relationship – Centered Leadership with the executive team from Evonik he was approach by the Director, Environmental Health Safety & Quality who asked if the concepts and models in the program could be applied to improving the safety leadership performance of front-line supervisors.
This invitation lead to seven successful years in developing specific programs to improve the skills of supervisors and of specific initiatives and structures, such as the, Safety Culture Flywheel, that have helped to significantly reduce accidents and injuries, reduce medical claims and most importantly save lives. One of Tom’s favorite quotes to supervisors is, “ I bet you came to work today thinking that it’s just another day; not so. What you do and how they do it today and everyday can contribute to saving a life. What could be more meaningful than saving someone from getting hurt or losing their life.”
Prior to The Renewal Group, Tom had a distinguished career as an executive in behavioral medicine in which he developed, implemented and operated behavioral care systems throughout the United Sates and Mexico. One of his most significant learning experiences, which he applies to his work today, was to partner with the Mind/Body Medical Institute of Harvard to create a state of the science cardiac rehabilitation and cancer program. Learning how the mind and body work hand and hand provided additional insight into human motivation and engagement.
Tom has a master’s degree in educational counseling from the University of Connecticut. His strong background in psychology and human motivation has helped numerous organizations transform their organizational cultures and develop the potential of their human resources.
